betascan driver for mustek and some Trust scanners
port of SANE-mustek driver by Henning Meier-Geinitz
tested on:
Mustek ScanExpress 12000SP (firmware 1.01) this is the only one guaranteed (on my hardware at least;-)
Mustek Paragon 1200 A3 PRO
Mustek ScanExpress 12000SP Plus
Trust SCSI Connect 19200
Mustek Paragon 600 II CD
Mustek Paragon MFS-6000CX
Mustek Paragon MFS-12000CX
Mustek ScanMagic 9636S
INSTALLATION:
rename the current (if any) Mustek.device to Mustek.device.works (or something similar)
copy the mustek.device file to your Betascan/Devices directory
make sure PIPE: is mounted (the PIPE and PIPE.info is in devs:dosdrivers or mounted for instance in either startup-sequence or user-startup)
new for 0.51+:
copy the mustek.conf wherever you like (for instance in the same place you have betascan or somewhere else completly)
remember to set the SANE_CONFIG_DIR env variable to the correct path (not needed if the location is s:)
the path MUST end in either ':' or '/' (I'm too lazy to fix that :-) there is a demo SANE_CONFIG_DIR variable in the archive
DO NOT USE IT!!! (make your own:-) )
for scanexpress (and maybe others) put the tempbuffer size as high as you can (remember that the size is in kbytes)
and put the destination file somewhere on your harddrives that way you speed the
scanning up and reduce the memory consumption (betascan does not apparantly allocate the buffer in one swoop at the start of the scan).
read the sane-mustek.man for information regarding the options in mustek.conf
and their usability.
some people seem to have problems with contrast/threshold/gamma with certain scanners
please note that not all scanners support all these options in all modes
Report any faults. to me the uploader/author/porter

changes:
1.0.104 updated to latest source 1.0.104
1.0.103 updated to latest source 1.0.103
1.0.102 updated to latest source 1.0.102 which uses SANE 1.04 (betascan still only implements 1.02) the only difference
seems to be a addition of some more options like preview option
1.0.100: changed the version numbering to be the same as the orginal SANE-mustek source
updated to latest source 1.0.100
some changes to the changes that was implemented in the prior version
0.54: updated to latest source 1.0.99, considering changing the amiga version numbering to be the same as the SANE one
changes to:
ScanExpress (faster :-), and better :-))
Paragon 12000SP (better color scanning)
Paragon 1200SP Pro (working >600 Dpi color scanning)
0.53: minor changes, cleaned some amiga specif stuff upp
0.52: updated to the latest source 1.0.98 some major changes
0.51: very minor change, changed the way the mustek.conf file is located you can now put the location of it in a env variable called
SANE_CONFIG_DIR there is a couple of abers the path must end in either ':' or '/' I've supplied a demo env in the archive called (you guessed right)
SANE_CONFIG_DIR, if there is no env variable it will (hopefully) read the file from s: if the file isn't there.. no sweat the device won't crash.
0.50: release version cut in stone. should work as long as you use betascan 2.15 or 2.21+(not yet released on aminet)
2.20 does not work with this device (apparantly something changed dramatically in either the linker libs or the betascan source or a combination)
the recently released 2.25 works of course.
0.48-0.49: did some internal tests with some code for handling other resolutions etc
0.47: updated to 1.0.96 and did my changes for the scanexpress (nothing major)
0.46: minor tweaks again in scanexpress code
0.45: minor tweaks
0.44: updated to 1.0.92 and did some changes for A3/A4 Pro
0.43: did some additional changes for A3/A4 Pro
0.42: did some changes for A3/A4 Pro
0.41: updated to 1.0.91, changes to linedistance handling
0.40: updated to 1.0.90, changes to linedistance handling
0.39: ooopss forgot to revert the SCOPTIONS and smakefiles after making some tests with 060 compiled versions
(and with heavy optimizatio). the driver now is slightly larger and might be slower but should be more stable.
0.38: updated to 1.0.88, tweaks to Paragon 1200 A3 Pro (and probaly A4 Pro)
otherwise same as for 0.37.
test it carefully.
0.37: updated to 1.0.86, major overhaul of the code, added support for
Paragon 1200 A3 Pro and A4 Pro
This release is even more of a beta do NOT delete the old version instead
rename it to something like Mustek.device.works
see Mustek.changes for more info about the changes
0.36: internal release, just mucking about:-)
0.35: Removed The SystemControl's from this version might improve performance
since 1.0.85 have implemented double-buffered scanning.
(and it didn't seem to help with the broken smaller than 170mm scans at 600+ DPi).
0.34: updated to 1.0.85 might fix some problems with some paragon scanners
the main problem with the scanexpress 12000SP with overrunning the internal buffer
at 600DPi and 1200DPi if the scanner needs to backtrack on smaller widths remains.
change the buffer size in betascan/config and see which value works
(I currently use 64Kb might be one problem :-) still locks out the the system during
the scan. might remove the SCON_StopInput later
0.33: changed the way it is implemented, now the system locks out any input during the
entire scan.
There seems to be problems with scans at 600DPi and 1200DPi for ScanExpress 12000SP
when the scan width is less than 170mm and backtracking is needed.
0.32: not much changed, implemented some minor changes to the device driver so that
the 1200 DPi scanning with ScanExpress and with lots of backtracking now works
the negative point of this is that during scanning regard the system as inoperative.
0.30: not much changed, implemented speed control (might not work)
seems to be more stable speedwise.
0.29: not much changed first aminet release from me based on SANE 1.0.83
0.28: still 1.0.82 but now should read the mustek.conf file included
might be needed for certain scanners.
0.27: changed to 1.0.82 source code
should handle TA* and ADF** now
0.26: changed to 1.0.81 source code
*TA=Transparency Adaptor
**ADF=Automatic Document Feeder
